October 29, the Timken Museum of Art will hold its second annual Orange & Black Ball: A Timken Halloween Fantasy. The evening has all the elegant fanfare of a black-tie fund-raising gala inspired by the Timken collection and Halloween. The costumed Ball starts off with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:00pm at the Timken, followed by a formal, seated dinner and program beginning 7:30pm at the Prado Grand Ballroom. At 8:00pm, the lower-priced After Party begins at the Timken. After Party guests will join the Ball guests for music and dancing in Balboa Park’s Prado Grand Ballroom as Shammy Dee provides the entertainment until midnight.
All are welcome to attend the entire evening’s festivities, but to make the Orange & Back Ball affordable for everyone, the Timken is offering the After Party experience for $100 per person. For those who wish to attend the full gala, the price is $500.
Orange & Black Ball: A Timken Halloween Fantasy
The Orange & Black Ball will feature signature cocktails by Snake Oil Cocktail Company inspired by the Timken ‘s priceless collection of European Old World Masters, 19th century American Art and Russian Icons. Guests will also enjoy seasonal bites from the Prado in the museum’s galleries.
Offering a unique stroke of performance art, there will be interactive body-painted models to compliment selected paintings on display at the Timken; actors reciting poetry and rap to compliment selected paintings; and greeters dressed as Francisco de Zurbaran's painting, Saint Francis in Meditation (http://timkenmuseum.org/collection/spanish/saint-francis-meditation). Guests will also explore an art installation designed and created by veterans from the Timken’s Creative Engagement program.
The treats continue at the After Party with music and dancing. Other festive elements of the Orange & Black Ball include an espresso bar by Café Arcidiacono, a curated photo station and trick or treat candy gift bags.
Orange & Black Ball attendees are encouraged to bring art to life by wearing a costume inspired by the Timken’s stunning collection of art. Black tie is also an option. For costume inspiration, guests are encouraged to explore The Orange & Black Ball Look Book featuring items for sale at Neiman Marcus San Diego: http://bit.ly/2ce1Ue7.
‘Orange & Black Ball’ Proceeds to Benefit Timken’s Educational Outreach Programs; Focus This Year is Veterans with PTSD
Proceeds raised by the Orange & Black Ball will benefit the Timken’s educational outreach programs. This year, Creative Engagement, which serves the veteran community, many of whom suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), is the primary focus of the Timken’s outreach. Art instruction, exhibition opportunities and mentoring supports recovery in veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Universal themes and narratives depicted through the art at the Timken inspire veterans to create their own narrative through art. Using art expression, veterans process intense emotions and memories often too difficult to convey in words.
